This may be old news but I haven’t read about it anywhere, but it appears that the AMC Chestnut Hill 5 Movie theater is closed. At least they are no longer listing films. (This was not unexpected, the new six-screen Cinema de Lux will open this spring at site former Macys.)
Meanwhile, Wicked Local has confirmed that Charley’s Eating & Drinking Saloon, a longtime fixture at lower level entrance to the Mall at Chestnut Hill, has shut down was with ownership saying the eatery had “an older style” they didn’t wish to continue. See the notice from the restaurant here.
Newton Patch has confirmed the movie theater’s closing and has lots of details about other changes at The Steeet.
Charley’s certainly did have an “older style”. It was the favorite of my parents, now both gone, whenever they visited from Florida. Consistently average and familiar. That it was always crowded added to the allure for them.
