The full board of aldermen voted unanimously tonight to allow the city to enter into a 99 year lease with the MBTA for the old railroad line behind Needham St. That’s a big step forward for the Greenway project.
Next up is signing the lease with the MBTA, filing with the Conservation Commission, and doing some design work. If all goes as planned, we’ll have a new mile long park/walking/bicycle trail in Upper Falls by the end of next summer.
An important step forward. Congratulations Jerry and to everyone else who have been working on this for so long.
This is great news for the bicycling and walking community, but I believe the greatest winners will be the people of Upper Falls. Another home run for Jerry and so many other folks that pushed this forward. Also well done to Aldermen Rice, Crossley and Yates for their firm support and encouragement.
Congratulations, Jerry Reilly, at all. This greenway is the first step in the way of connecting Newton Upper Falls to the rest of Newton and Needham. This is yet another victory over NIMBYs who resisted public access to public lands. The previous victory was won by State Representative Kay Khan in Newton Lower Falls after a 7-years-long-war.
Hopefully, the next step is to introduce some sort of motorized transportation within that Greenway and connect it to Rt.9.
Motorized transportation on the greenway? May be that’s why NIMBY’s exist. How is that in keeping with a GREENway?
