Aside from the church and the post office Sol’s barber shop (aka ‘Ye Old Clip Joint’) in  Upper Falls is probably the oldest institution in the neighborhood.  After 45 years of cutting hair there, Sol’s still not ready to put down his scissors but he is ready to hand over the keys.   This past Saturday, Ye Old Clip Joint closed and Mike’s Classic Barber Shop opened a few doors away in the old Zape storefront.

Sol will continue cutting hair but he’ll probably cut back on his hours a bit.  Mike Boucher, his hair cutting partner for the last six years will take over the running of the business.  They also have plans to add a third barber soon.   The new premise looks great and features a big display case.  Half the case is filled  with all sorts of antique barber paraphernalia and they’re planning on filling the other half with military paraphernalia on loan from their customers.
