Residents of the 4th best small city in the U.S. donated $121.1 million to charity in 2008, ranking them as one of the more generous municipalities in Massachusetts, Patch reports,
The dollar amount donated, however, represents just 3.7 percent of Newtonians median discretionary income of $131,254. That percentage puts Newton behind the national giving percentage of 4.7 percent, while keeping it ahead of the Commonwealth’s overall percentage of 2.8 percent.
The data is part of a new study by The Chronicle of Philanthropy.
