I never miss an opportunity to plug Fiorella’s, my favorite Newton restaurant.
So did your family take you there today?
We’re going to check out the new Jonathan’s Bar & Grille.
@Gail, We LOVE Fiorella’s restaurant. Fiorella’s is proof that an awkward location is far less important than great food and great service.
Happy Mother’s Day, Gail! You too, Greg.
Aw, thanks Bill, no one has ever wished me a happy mothers day before.
I’m excited to try Fiorellas because I’m underwhelmed by most every restaurant in Newton aside from the subs shops. I wish we had a Demos, Mimi’s Roast Beef, Blue Ginger, Ana’s Taqueria. Blue Ribbon is just bad. If you like that BBQ, you don’t know good BBQ. I have to try that new diner where KFC was. The two restaurants across the street from there that closed deserved to be closed. Not good. Skipjacks is a joke when you have Legals so close by.
Greg – Most of my family took me to Fiorella’s, yes. One-quarter of the unit is still celebrating the end of college finals…
Dinner was great! Let me know what you think once you’ve tried it, Kim.
I spent Mother’s Day with my mother in NYC, for the first time in years – so, no, we didn’t go to a Newton restaurant 😉
@Jerry – how was Jonathan’s?
mgwa – We had a very nice evening there. I’m not much of a “foodee” but here’s my quick take. Both of our entree’s were delicious (seared tuna, and filet mignon), the tuna in particular – perfectly cooked and nice subtle ginger flavor. One minor negative – the mashed potatoes that came as a side with the beef seemed to have been machine processed somehow so they had a completely uniform texture – not a good thing in my book.
The service and atmosphere was pleasant and unhurried. One odd detail – the dining room was half full the whole time we were there but the next day my wife spoke to someone in the neighborhood who called that night for a reservation and was told they were all booked up. Maybe they’re not fully staffed yet ?
The menu was fairly straight ahead and not very adventurous but they did a good job with it. The prices were reasonable for what we ate (tuna=$20) but they were expensive at the low end of the menu ($12 cheeseburger).
… and it was very red
Thanks Jerry!
