According to a posting on the Franklin School Listserve, a landscaper was shot by a BB while working in a yard on Sheridan Street. The post says:
On Saturday Afternoon 4/7/2012 we had landscapers […] cleaning the front of our house [on Sheridan Street]. At around 3:30 pm one of his workers was shot with a BB gun in the back. This pellet penetrated so deep that he will require surgery to remove it. The Newton Police are investigating.

Based on where the man was standing when he got shot – the shot had to have come from Cleveland/Smith Ave area.
Anyone with information is asked to call Newton Police.
“Landscaper shot by BB in Newton” – was that from the <a href="http://www.theonion.com"Onion crime log?
If this is confirmed, it ranks as one of our most disturbing criminal acts. I don’t even want to approach the question “why”. To think a lawn worker would return home and let the family know he was shot at in Newton… sickening.
It is true as it happened at our house on Saturday Afternoon. Hopefully they will find the person that did this before they try to do it again. Anyone with any information is asked to call the Newton Police.
Keep your ears open in school. No chance these kids don’t brag about this.
Kim — Kids? They the ones bothered by lawn guy noise in West Newton?
So from what the Newton Police tell me, the pellet hit the back of the victim’s leg and penetrated the skin. It had stopped bleeding by the time police arrived, and he refused medical treatment. Police say there’s no indication he was targeted. If someone knows otherwise, please contact me so we can get to the bottom of this.

Update: Amid reports the landscaper is infected by whatever is lodged in his leg, police tell me he never had the object removed. That being said, they can’t confirm if it was in fact a BB pellet or maybe a rock ejected from a landscaping tool.
