Please, someone tell me why, and what can happen, and how we can help mitigate the problems. New to this.
Thanks.
Good question. I wish there was a storm drain map like there’s a hydrant map. I have no idea where to start looking.
Everybody be cool; the National Weather Service is saying that it will probably only be freezing rain.
Phew! For a second there, I thought we should be worried…
The engineering department has a map of the water, sewer and stormwater system, but it is not currently online.
Google maps street view is still your best bet for locating the stormd rain nearest you.
Here it is: http://gis.newtonma.gov/utilityatlas.html
Thanks Alderman Norton. I’m now convinced that I need to invest in some flippers and goggles. The drains at the end of our street are under well over-my-head mountains of plowed snow.

Dig out the storm drain? With what? The front-end loader we happen to keep in the living room? We need concerted official action, not tone-deaf lectures on civic responsibility. And we need it before this stuff starts to melt, causing massive property damage. Everyone should read the op-ed piece in today’s (Friday’s) New York Times which accurately describes this situation as a slow-motion natural disaster we’ve all been left to cope with on our own.
