A jury acquitted Newton police secretary Jeanne Sweeney Mooney of larceny Tuesday, despite testimony against her by the former police chief and the agency’s internal affairs officer, Boston.com  and Wicked Local report.

Mooney has also filed a federal complaint against the city, contending that the mayor and several Police Department employees violated her privacy rights and illegally retaliated against her for speaking out.

Mooney’s acquittal bolsters her federal case against the city, said John Tocci, her civil attorney.
