Does that mean something’s happening to that building?
Never ate there, but always sad when someplace closes due to lease problems.
Too bad, I liked that place. Little pricey.

Where I recently noticed some of the booths have electrical outlets for me to plug in my computer equipment.
Seems to me that any restaurant venture involving the kind of renovation that went into Jonathan’s would have been based on a minimum five-year lease. So, “losing their lease” must have meant either not paying the rent, or some deal to sell the entire property including the former Filene’s Basement meant a more attractive buy-out than running a restaurant.
Went a few times and we liked it, though a bit expensive for the portion sizes. What is one to do with gift certificates received as gifts? Not too good when a local guy lets this happen to customers giving him a shot to succeed.
According to Boston Restaurant Talk, “They didn’t “lose their lease”. Jonathan’s owner owned the building, and it was foreclosed on a few months back and it was sold at auction.”
