After three years as editor-in-chief, Melanie Graham announced today that she’s leaving the Newton Patch. Melanie has been the editor of Newton’s Patch since it’s founding. The Patch on-line local news site in each town is largely a one person show. So here in Newton, Melanie Graham IS the Newton Patch.
She landed here three years ago and dug in, quickly learned the politics, the businesses, the personalities and then cranked out nearly 5000 articles on all of them. In a short time, she turned the Newton Patch into an important resource for the whole city.
We welcome Brooklyn Lowery, the incoming editor and wish her all the best. She’s got a tough job ahead because those are some big shoes to fill.
Yikes. This is a HUGE loss for Newton.
For the past three years, Melanie and her smart phone were omnipresent: Covering everything and tweeting about even more. I know I speak for many organizations when I say how grateful I’ve been by her willingness to promote and cover events across our villages.
Just as importantly, Melanie knows how to cover a news story and how to explain complicated municipal issues, skills that should never be underestimated.
I also know I’m speaking for many, when I say, Newton will miss her friendly demeanor and total professionalism.
Best of luck Melanie and thanks for all you’ve done for Newton.
Welcome Brooklyn.
Melanie, best of success and happiness going forward. You have many admirers for the work and results you generated with the Newton Patch. We enjoyed and appreciated your efforts to make Newton Patch informative, balanced, and fun to read.
We will certainly miss Melanie! She has turned Patch into the most dependable resource for local organizations and, like Greg said, has done it with complete professionalism and with a smile. I can confidently say that every arts and culture organization in town will miss her support! Which ever company is grabbing her is gaining an invaluable asset!
Brooklyn, we look forward to meeting you soon!
Stop by Mick Morgan’s on Needham St tomorrow (Thurs) at 8PM (or after) to say goodbye and wish her well. Everybody’s welcome, whether you know her personally or are you’re just an admirer of what she built at the Newton Patch.
This is a big loss for Newton. I’m sorry to see you go, Melanie, but I’m happy for you. Congratulations and good luck.
I’ll see you tomorrow night!
Welcome Brooklyn!
Melanie, Your work was highly professional and top-notch.
All the best and good luck!
Wishing Melanie all the best wherever her journey takes her next. She has been a terrific asset and a great source for news, often scooping that “other” well known Newton publication her great pound the pavement work ethic. I’m sure she has a fabulous career ahead and just have to say, thanks Melanie!
Melanie, we’re going to miss you. Thank you for providing a platform for us candidates as well as being an excellent news source for the community. You’ve set the bar incredibly high for your successor.
See you tomorrow night!
I will greatly miss Melanie and the wonderful misdemeanor and great energy she brought to our city as THE SOURCE for the Newton PATCH. She is a wonderful young woman! Whomever employs her next is making a fabulous decision. I am afraid the PATCH may have to hire two people (at least) in attempts of replacing her!
Fair to all, well informed, and accurate. The sheer quantity of stories published is astounding. Melanie was everywhere and did a super job with no personal agenda other than to get tons of info out there and get it right. This is a real loss for Newton. I wish Melanie all the best in her career.
Wow — thank you all so much for the kind words…I’m not sure what else to say! I hope to see you all Thursday at Mick Morgan’s!
Melanie, I also want to add my thanks and appreciation for all of your work at Newton Patch, you were never to busy to answer a question or report on the many requests I made about covering events. This is indeed a big loss for Newton, I wish you the very best in your new adventure and look forward to seeing you tonight at Mick Morgan’s!
@Melanie. I’ll be honest, I never thought the Newton Patch would survive when it first started publishing. You not only made it work, you put it on full view here. You will be missed.
