Over on the south side of the city, at the corner of Nahanton St and Winchester is the Newton Community Farm. It’s a non-profit working, community run, farm that hosts all sorts of programs for adults and kids.
One of the ways they support themselves is via their Friend of the Farm program.
If you do become a Friend of the Farm than you are eligible to participate in their summer Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program. You buy a CSA share and get a weekly (or bi-weekly) selection of all kinds of fresh vegetables right from the field. Your CSA share also helps keep the farm running. There are a limited number of shares available and demand always outstrips supply.
March 1 is the deadline to apply to get a summer 2020 CSA share. If you put your application in this week, you’ll be in the lottery, and you’ll hear whether or not you hit the vegetable jackpot next week. For more info see their Community Supported Agriculture page.
Thank you, Jerry, for posting this. 🙂
The Newton Community Farm is an amazing asset. And my family is a huge fan of the CSA program. Highly recommended.
NCF is a hidden gem. As Jerry said, CSA shares go fast as demand outstrips supply. They also used to ask CSA members to volunteer with farm chores, which (if that’s still the case) is no chore at all — it’s actually quite nice.
Yes, it’s still a CSA requirement and yes not a chore at all.
