City Council will vote to increase Bulky Waste/White Goods Fees – TONIGHT: Both the Public Facilities Committee and the Finance Committee approved an increase in the Bulky Waste/White Goods fee and the item is scheduled to be voted on TONIGHT. The fee would increase to $25 per item. Free drop-off will be maintained except for TVs and computer monitors. According to the Finance Committee Report: “the change would be for curb side collection, there will be a $25 fee per item instead of per pick-up and the free drop off will be maintained except for TVs and computer monitors.”
An alternative for monitors: “Staples has been offering free office electronics recycling to all retail customers in the U.S. since 2012. Customers can bring any brand of office technology in any condition, regardless of where they purchased it, to Staples® stores for free recycling by our recycler, ERI Direct.” https://www.staples.com/sbd/cre/marketing/about_us/corporate-responsibility/environment/recycling-solutions/
@Paul I don’t believe that Staples or Best Buy take computer monitors or TV’s for free anymore. I would check with the individual stores.
Thanks, @Alison. As you suggest, the Best Buy website says they take up to two monitors per household per day, at $25 each. The current Staples website is the one I list above, which implies they do not charge, but it’s probably a good idea to check.
Here’s another Staples website saying the same thing: https://www.staples.com/sbd/cre/marketing/about_us/corporate-responsibility/environment/recycling-solutions/ “Items accepted for free recycling: Monitors (including CRT, LED/LCD, plasma).” (Limit of seven items can be recycled per customer per day. Store management has the right to refuse to accept items that may pose a health or safety risk.)
