The Newton Nomadic Theater is back with a great new show – Doubt – that opens this coming weekend in Newton Highlands. Tickets may be a bit harder to come by this time around since we’re only doing a four week run (due to actors’ schedules) rather than our normal five weeks.
John Patrick Shanley’s Doubt: A Parable has been described as a “blunt and blazing thriller”. Did he? or didn’t he? that’s the question at the heart of this Pulitzer prize winning script.
Doubt is set in a Catholic elementary school in the 1960’s. The changing tides of the times and dark suspicions pit the principal of the school (Linda Goetz) against a parish priest (Matt Winberg) with a young nun (Sarah Morisette) caught in the crossfire. Hanging in the balance is one boy’s fate, the first black student in the school, with his mother to defend him (Ramona Lisa Alexander). Moment to moment the story is in turns funny, tense, heartrending, and explosive.
As always, each night or two the show will move to a new and unique performance space. Like nomads the world over, we never settle in any one place for long. Along with some of our favorite regular venues, we’re excited to be bringing it to a living room in Jamaica Plain (Sally & Tim Deans home) for the first time.
Join us at an artist’s studio, a barn, a library, a living room, a rug store or a pub.
Fabulous opening night show last night. Once again, we’ve got the goods with another great cast and production.
Tickets are still available for tonight’s 7:30 show (just a few) and tomorrow’s 3 PM matinee. Show runs through Feb 19 at many different interesting locations around Newton and elsewhere. Get tickets and additional information at NewtonNomadicTheater.org
Hear what people had to say about the opening night performance of Doubt. Tickets available for Sunday’s (Jan 29, 3 PM) matinee and for shows through Feb 19
An exquisitely plotted story of suspicion— did he do it? Wherever you come firmly down with a ‘yes’, you pull a thread in the storyline and your certainty unravels. I haven’t had a theater experience like this since – ah — my last livingroom experience with the Newton Nomadic Theater. I was able to walk to the venue from my house!
