The grand opening of the new Upper Falls Greenway won’t be until sometime in the spring. Between now and then there are various details that will be added/finished (benches, signs, etc). In the meantime though the trail itself is done and ready for walking/bicycling/jogging.
Come on down to the The Depot at the corner of Chestnut and Oak streets the Saturday afternoon (1/16), 2 PM. I’m organizing a totally unofficial walk of the new one mile park/path. We’ll walk the whole path and back to Chestnut/Oak and talk about future plans and ideas for the Greenway, maybe a bit of history, and anything else that comes to mind along the way.
The whole walk should take about an hour. In case of rain, we’ll do it Sunday at 2 PM.
*** Free Bonus *** – For anyone who wants one … I’ve got a free railroad spike for you from this historic RR line.
Jerry- did you ever find any spikes with numbers on them?
Hmm – I learned a while ago that when maintenance crews replaced wooden ties they would bang a little nail into the wooden tie with a two digit number on it that indicated the year that the tie was replaced. Is that what you’re talking about? I have seen a few of those before they pulled up the ties. Unfortunately I never grabbed one.
As for the spikes, I don’t know anything about numbers on those and haven’t noticed any.
I see. I was looking for the wrong thing then. I was wondering how old the tracks might have been. Guess those nails wouldn’t have dated them anyway.
Hey, when did the greenway get labeled in google maps? Cool!
Looking forward to walking it soon.
@fignewtonville – Nice! I didn’t know about that
here…
You’re welcome 🙂
I think Adam did it, not sure if I approved it or not but I think I likely did 😀
This is very exciting and super excited to use this on Tour De Newton next year!!!!
