I was lucky enough to get a delivery this morning. The Boston Globe’s Weekend section featured an album review of pop singer “Newton Centre-raised Rachel Platten”.
I’ve never heard of her but that’s not much of a surprise … not my kind of music.
It’s nice to hear that Newton continues to hatch singers, actors and artists of all stripes.

Jerry: Her song “Fight Song” was the song on the summer. My kids sang it all year. Actually a pretty great uplifting song, very catchy. But she’s very well-known now. And from what I know of her story, it was the product of a lot of hard work, so much to be proud of.
I find that my kids have forced me to pay some degree of attention to the latest songs. Basically if it will one day be featured on the Kids-Bopp! albums, I probably now know the lyrics…
For instance, I know all the words to Uptown Funk, Fight Song, and Let it go. Call me Bruno Fignewtonville, by way of Elsa from Frozen.
😉
I heard on the radio the other day that she went to BB&N with Mindy Kaling.
I heard of her when I was in the Post Office at the same time as her mother, who was kvelling (as well she should) that Rachel had been on Good Morning America that day!
@fignewtonville – I’m mostly out of that loop. My 13 year old listens almost entirely on earbuds/headphones … though I’m not complaining.
Like a small boat
On the ocean
Sending big waves
Into motion
Like how a single word
Can make a heart open
I might only have one match
But I can make an explosion
And all those things I didn’t say
Wrecking balls inside my brain
I will scream them loud tonight
Can you hear my voice this time?
This is my fight song
Take back my life song
Prove I’m alright song
My power’s turned on
Starting right now I’ll be strong
I’ll play my fight song
And I don’t really care if nobody else believes
‘Cause I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me
Losing friends and I’m chasing sleep
Everybody’s worried about me
In too deep
Say I’m in too deep (in too deep)
And it’s been two years
I miss my home
But there’s a fire burning in my bones
Still believe
Yeah, I still believe
And all those things I didn’t say
Wrecking balls inside my brain
I will scream them loud tonight
Can you hear my voice this time?
This is my fight song
Take back my life song
Prove I’m alright song
My power’s turned on
Starting right now I’ll be strong
I’ll play my fight song
And I don’t really care if nobody else believes
‘Cause I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me
A lot of fight left in me
Like a small boat
On the ocean
Sending big waves
Into motion
Like how a single word
Can make a heart open
I might only have one match
But I can make an explosion
This is my fight song (Hey!)
Take back my life song (Hey!)
Prove I’m alright song (Hey!)
My power’s turned on
Starting right now I’ll be strong (I’ll be strong)
I’ll play my fight song
And I don’t really care if nobody else believes
‘Cause I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me
No I’ve still got a lot of fight left in me
@Fig: Did you memorize that or cut and paste?
Not often these days that I can sing a song with my kids and not worry about the language or the content….
Greg, I cut and paste from google, but really I’ve got it almost memorized. One of my kids views it as his personal anthem of sorts, and I sing along as required.
I also have Aladdin memorized.
Between being named after a cookie and my singing, I’m a favorite at parties. Life of the party!
You are a person of many talents.
All of them useless. 😉
My children (30s and 40s) and my grandsons either sing or lipsync to so many songs that even I know the words to Fight Song. We recorded my son and 2 of the boys having a lip sync contest at Christmas. The 14 yo can really play that air guitar! Takes me back.
It is a good song and she is quite talented. She was on the today show this week singing her new song.
