This weekend is jam packed full of fantastic arts events in town – and the rest of April is no sludge either! This weekend alone you have the chance to see:

  • Alice in Wonderland characters gracefully leap from the page to the stage with the New Philharmonia and Boston Ballet School on Sunday, 4/6 at 3pm at the First Baptist Church
  • Newton Open Studios unleashes its visual awesome of 175 artists all across town Saturday, 4/5 – Sunday, 4/6
  • Highland Jazz closes its season with a Big Band Bash on Saturday, 4/5 at 8pm at Newton South
  • Newton Cultural Alliance’s Ovations 2014 Gala honors artist Nancy Schon, Historic Newton, and WS Development on Saturday, 4/5 at First Baptist Church

I highly recommend checking out Newton Open Studios. There are large coop spaces, individual studios, artists’ homes – it’s a wonderful way to brighten your weekend! Click here to plan your route and learn more.

Alice in Wonderland is going to be unforgettable. The orchestra has shifted from on the stage at the First Baptist Church in Newton Centre to in front of the stage to act as pit orchestra. The Boston Ballet School students are marvelous. We rehearsed with them in costumes this week and we were quickly transported to Wonderland. (I’m sorry I couldn’t capture any pictures, I couldn’t maneuver my bass around the harp!) Bring your favorite young folks to this production – it’s the last Family Discovery Concert of the season!

Upcoming April Performances:

  • Highland Glee Club
    Music from the British Isles
Sunday, April 13 at 3pm | War Memorial Auditorium, City Hall
  • Newton Family Singers
Loves Me Like a Rock: A Joyful Celebration of Paul Simon
Sunday, April 13 at 4pm | Newton North

There’s so much more, but this should get your arts appetite going! Hope to see you out and about this weekend!
