Hey folks, this is one of those great busy weekends in Newton! I’ve only time to pick two events to highlight today – see them below! There are also Village Days happening this weekend. Feel free to put any additional arts and culture events in the comments!

Performing together for the first time at our 30th Anniversary Gala in April, pianist Paul Broadnax and vocalist Wannetta Jackson created pure jazz magic, energizing a sold-out house with their renditions of swing and blues standards. Join these award-winning artists as they reunite to kick off Highland Jazz’s 2013-2014 concert series.
The Three Miracles of the Jewish Danes, an illustrated talk with Anne Ipsen
Scandinavian Cultural Center
Sunday, September 29 at 1pm
Scandinavian Living Center
During World War II, the Danish people helped their Jewish countrymen escape to Sweden. The most dramatic of these events happened during the High Holy Days of 1943, but the miracles of the rescue of seven thousand Jewish Danes span all five years of the German occupation. They are timeless lessons in the resistance of evil by ordinary people. To commemorate the seventieth anniversary year, Dr. Ipsen will describe the unusual circumstances of the occupation in an illustrated talk, based on her memoir, A Child’s Tapestry of War—Denmark 1940-45.
