I just came across Project Pop-Up – a partnership piloted in Newton and Needham (now expanded to Melrose) to support local innovation and entrepreneurship.
Over 100 emerging brands and entrepreneurs applied to be a part of Project: Pop-Up. and 15 brands were selected for the opportunity. These forward-thinking businesses are popping up for two-three months at a subsidized rate and will be provided with a suite of resources to help seed their success.
This project is funded by the MOBD’s Regional Pilot Project Grant Program as part of their efforts to aid in the Commonwealth’s economic recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.
Newton, Needham, and Melrose are hosting entrepreneurs, artists, eateries and more to their downtown districts to fill otherwise dormant storefronts with vibrancy and vitality while driving traffic to each area’s core of locally owned businesses.
In Newton we have:
813 Washington St, Newtonville – Anchor’d Inc ( modern themed home decor and accessories)
1 Lincoln St, Newton Highlands – Hedgehog Belly (clothing and accessories for kids), Puck and Abby (handmade goods from artisans around the US), Louis Sel (French sea salt), Featured artists John and Caroline Rufo
141 Needham St, Upper Falls – Clark’s Cake and Cookies, The Bagel Table, Union Square Donuts Outpost
Kudos to their market researcher’s – cakes, cookies, bagels and donuts – mmm someone must have asked what does Jerry needs in Upper Falls
Be sure to check out the Project Pop-Up web site for the hours of operation for each of the businesses. They are all different.
The 141 Needham Street space now has posters in all the windows announcing that it will reopen as a Dave’s Hot Chicken. Their approved closing time is midnight which will make them one of the only takeout places in Needham/Newton to be open at that hour. I wish they offered some veggie options.
