Avenue Deli opened Wednesday, January 4, in the strip mall just west of Four Corners on Beacon Street in Newton Highlands. Mike (I didn’t catch his last name) and his two college daughters greeted us as we entered to check out this new casual neighborhood restaurant for lunch. Mike is a very personable and friendly restauranteur, experienced in currently owning and running a deli in Lexington and a second which he closed in Watertown when his lease expired and he found this space in Newton.
We ordered two sandwiches and a couple of sides that were bountiful enough portions that we could bring half home for dinner. I had the mile-high hot pastrami with Swiss on marble rye with cole slaw and my partner had a liverwurst on rye with lettuce and tomato (I know…he’s weird) and an order of curly fries. Our sandwiches were delicious. Both came with Mike’s homemade half-sour pickles that are right on the money. Speaking of money, the bill came to $24, including tax and tip, a very reasonable price for deli in our sky-high real estate market!
Avenue Deli carries deli sandwiches, deli classics, pizza, burgers, soups and salads.
And Mike’s daughters, home on school vacation, go to college in Tampa and Phoenix, showing how intelligent they are to scoot out of New England for the winter!
Every time I went to the now closed watertown location I really enjoyed the food from Avenue Deli. Mike is a great and friendly local business owner that takes great care of his customers. I’m looking forward to checking out the new location soon.
Hello,
I am the owner of Avenue Deli in Lexington.
Mike doesn’t own my place in Lexington.
Please note this point that my place is totally different ownership.
Can’t wait to try a sandwich from this place. It sounds great. In other Newton restaurant news: Burke’s Alewerks opened in the old Local/Crowley’s space. Looks great, has beer and pizza, and will have weekly trivia and even live music! Not enough live music in Newton.
Anyone have any information on Crystal’s Bakery in Newtonville? The sign has been up for a while and am excited to learn more. West Newton and Newtonville are great for food right now.
He sold Avenue Deli in Lexington 2011-2012 to Billy long time ago because He was afraid of Panera Bread opening at that time.
Now he is saying he own the Avenue Deli in Lexington too. How dare he is lying to his customers? He opened Watertown 2019 and closed due to Covid then open same name in Newton. People need to know the story.
