speaking of schools, there was a “shelter in place” (police were called) in Day middle school about 2 weeks ago. I was told 2 students brought knives into the school. One child was suspended
I’m a little disturbed this incident was not discussed anywhere in the local news, Mayor newsletter etc.
Last time when someone wrote something on a bathroom stall in Day Middle school it’s immediately condemned by the Mayor and high levels of NPS.
but when literally knifes are out, crickets…
Comparative metrics are at least as important as are relativistic perceptions of our neighbors’ aspirations.
“Researchers at The Educational Opportunity Project at Stanford University and Center for Education Policy Research at Harvard University collaborated to publish and analyze the first district level view of changes in academic performance from 2019-2022. We use publicly available 3-8th grade math and reading state standardized test scores to report 6 key measures: math and reading achievement in 2019, math and reading achievement in 2022, and the change in both math and reading achievement between 2019 and 2022.”

A more recent committee meeting allowed public comment and the remarks were well worth hearing:
