We participated in this program and planted a couple of trees in the street in front of our house back in 2018. The trees we planted replaced two that were felled during Superstorm Sandy in 2012, and many of our neighbors also had trees planted in front of their houses to replace many that were lost to disease and damage. I strongly recommend this program to anyone that could benefit from more tree cover.
What FWG said. We have a tree in front of our house that’s thriving.
I also recommend volunteering the day of the planting. It’s gratifying to walk through the neighborhood thinking: “I helped plant that one.” “I help plant that one too” etc.
This is great!
It’s great seeing all the new trees.
One thing I would like to add – I wish new construction could be “encouraged” to bury wires.
We lost 3 fully mature trees over the last year and a half. 2 by the street.
It’s no surprise that the pruning to allow the wires to safely co-mingle – a necessary thing of course – likely hastened their demise.
Traveling around the city one sees trees pruned into bizarre shapes to accommodate wires.
Where possible, new construction should be very much encourage to bury wires. It helps prevent hazards, and let’s the trees grow
naturally, and, looks better.
