Thank you for posting this notice.
The core group initiating this initiative welcomes participation from Newton residents interested in joining the group.
At this stage there is still much planning to be undertaken.
Hi Meredith, thank you so much for the shout out!
Spears Community Garden is an exciting project being developed as a partnership with the city of Newton and the newly formed Friends of Spears Community Garden. Currently this is an underutilized greenspace that will be transformed into a beautiful jewel of a park along Washington st where folks can grow their own food (food insecurity is an increasing problem), share extra harvest with the Newton Food Pantry and the Freedge, allow for increase opportunity for out door activity and socialization for our residents which has been especially important during COVID and in a small way help address climate change by promoting sustainable agriculture, reducing water runoff, and increasing biodiversity.
I encourage others to attend the public meeting to learn more and perhaps join us in this worthy endeavor.
While unable to attend the meeting I am VERY interested and supportive of this project. We have a garden plot across town and it is very inconvenient to get to it from Newton Corner. We need one here. Not only do we have higher density but we have bus and T access to the proposed space. Community Gardens build community, attracting not only families and friends but also butterflies, birds, and bees. Yes! Yes! Yes!
