The Newton Patch reports that Mayor Fuller has tested positive for Covid-19.
Fuller said. “I took a rapid home antigen test on Sunday after experiencing mild, spring allergy-like symptoms. I feel fine and my symptoms continue to be mild. I am deeply grateful for the protection the vaccine and the booster provide against serious illness.”
May she have a swift and comfortable recovery!
I think the Mayor has done a pretty good job protecting the community from COVID, and wish her a speedy recovery.
In fairness, Mayor Fuller has done a great job keeping kids at home from scbool longer than necessary, keeping a mask rule longer than science would dictate and is withholding funds that would be used to stop the cuts to NPS.
So, “keeping us safe??” Getting covid is like getting a cold for 99% of the people. We have to stop with the “stay safe” talk. This isnt and never was ebola. It can be bad sure, but its largely a mild to moderate cold like anything else.
I too wish Mayor Fuller a speedy recovery. She is a generally nice woman and I do hope she stays with mild symptoms.
Gee. Frank. I’m calling bullsh!t on you. Maybe you should ask nearly one million people what yey think if Covid. Oh. That’s right you can’t because they passed away from the virus.
Spare me. Most of us have gotten covid at this point and most know it is a non-event if you are healthy and vaxed/boosted.
So, “stay safe” by staying home if you like. I will “stay safe” by living my life.
I understand the serious nature of the disease for some people, the 1%, but I also think comments like “stay safe” are a bit ridiculous and are fueled by a media narrative.
That is an absurd claim. Most of “us” have not gotten COVID at this point.
Why is it newsworthy every time a dignitary has covid? I don’t really get it.
For what it’s worth, claiming a majority of people have been infected with the coronavirus is not “absurd” at all. The CDC estimated in early March that about 43 percent of Americans have had the virus. If that estimate were even moderately conservative, in addition to the recent increase in cases, we are indeed talking about a majority or close to it.
Even here in Newton.
Wishing Mayor Fuller a speedy recovery.
I guess it depends upon how you define “Us”. Since the readership/audience is V14 is Newton residents I stand by my comment. No the majority of Newton residents have not had COVID. Not even close.
Sorry what? Of course they have. The city only reports PCR positives. I know so many people who were negative on antigens and never took a pcr to confirm.
And what makes you think getting covid is harder in newton than the rest of the planet? It is this type of thinking that makes people think a policy we have here can save the world. If we ban combustion engines, the planet will be saved!!!
Also getting covid is not a knock on ones character. You make it sound like people who have gotten covid have a scarlet letter or something.
Stop the nonsense, it is thankfully just a cold for most people, especially people in newton give. Our high vax and boost rates.
Im in my mid 40s, vaxed and boosted, and if I hadnt tested positive Id have thought it was season allergies, similar to Fuller.
Frank, you are ascribing a lot of assumptions based on my single comment, such as saying I am making any sort of character assessment. There are about 88,000 residents in Newton. The majority have not had COVID based upon data, which is all we can go upon. There have been 12,958 reported cases in Newton. Even if it was under-reported by 100% that is no where near a majority. Data and facts matters.
It seems like a lot of the more cautious folks are getting covid in this wave, though oddly there is still a cohort that believes they’ll never get it. I think we are at the point where people can carry whatever anxiety they wish, as long as they don’t presume to drive Newton back to failed strategies like forced masking.
Try underreported by at least 400 percent Mary Lee. Probably more. Many people test at home, or don’t even know they are infected.
Frank D: Are your comments inherently ignorant? Arrogant? Or both?
Anyhow, if COVID-19 is truly no less threatening than the common “cold” as you wrongly assert, then multiple deaths in families attending weddings and funerals and holiday parties early in 2020 must have been an aberration. Super-spreaders still cause positive COVID-19 outcomes as seen after last week’s Gridiron Club function in Washington, D.C. Let us not forget that over 800,000 Americans have succumbed from COVID-19. And a current new spike is occurring largely in the Northeast.
I’ll not continue assailing your junk science as your above comments reflect. Four years of speaking/writing to clarify the lies and false narratives and fake news and half-baked theories by Trump (e.g., drink bleach) was enough for four decades dealing with a dictator. After reading your above comments, clearly you followed along with that Pied Piper president who knows zero about science and hates scientists.
Peace.
I don’t think Frank’s comments are ignorant nor arrogant. Per the city’s own data, as of 4/13/22 Newton has had 200 deaths from Covid (tragic for those affected). However, given a population of 88,000 = fatality rate of 00.227 % . ( Another data point re: the schools – 74% of deaths were age 80+)
