Yesterday, Boston’s Mayor Wu announced in a joint press conference with Elon Musk, that Musk’s Boring Company will be drilling the “hypertunnels” for HyperHub – Boston’s next generation regional bicycle infrastructure project.
Today, Newton’s Mayor Ruthanne Fuller announced that Newton would be joining HyperHub and was scheduled to have 32 miles of dedicated high speed bicycle tunnels up and running by 2029 as part of the 14 community consortium.
Said Mayor Fuller “this will turn commuting to Boston on its head. Just imagine, you pedal into a station a half mile from you house. You roll your bike into a HyperHub pod and 4 and a half minutes later you arrive at South Station”
Says Nicole Freeman, Newtons Director of Transportation Planning “This will bring bicycle commuting to thousands of folks who would never consider it otherwise. Its ‘a game changer’“
Note: this post was just a bit of April Foolery
Will these tunnels be built in the expensive side of Newton or relegated to the area around the Mass Pike. LOL
Jerry- Maybe Tarik’s objections are in the spirit of this day.
Bruce C. The Transportation Advisory Group is urging Mayor Fuller to work with the MWRA to make the redundant aqueducts (Cochituate and Sudbury) available as bike tunnels, modeled on the European system outlined here:

I love this idea Andreae. The Sudbury aqueduct would be an all weather express lane right from my house, across the city, to Cleveland Circle
Won’t work, too inconvenient to ride to stations/portals.
The tunnels need to be constructed rapidly and on demand in order to match the door-to-door convenience of the private automobile.
Newton can be worldwide leader here by funding the development of this NewMole service out of ARPA funds.
Better trademark that “NewMole” quickly Mr Halle.
Hmm, April Fools?!?!
I love “NewMole” thanks and happy April fools to all.
