We can expect 10″ of wet heavy snow tomorrow in Newton. By the time we wake up Friday morning we should be in the thick of it.

No need to wonder if school will be cancelled. Kids are disappointed about a big storm coming during school vacation week.
And last month the blizzard fell on a Saturday! Screwed out of two snow days this year.
A friend of mine had two elementary school-age kids who were similarly disappointed when a couple of big snow storms occurred during vacation week and over the weekend. Of course, he had to be out there shoveling away to make sure the walk and driveway was clear so he could go to work.
On the morning of the second storm, he was slumped in the kitchen having a warm cup of coffee after a few hours worth of snow removal. His kids stomped in, the older one complaining, “Dad, I can’t believe we’re missing out on another snow day! It’s not fair!”
As he recalled, “I didn’t say anything. I just slowly turned around and looked at them. They immediately backed away and said, ‘Um, okay, Dad, we’ll just let you have some quiet time.'”
Some good news for the kids …. this storm has produced the absolute best quality snow for snowmen, snow forts, and snowballs … and the absolute worst for us shovellers
Let me share a little tip that a co-worker was kind enough to share with me. If you don’t have a garage, you can park your car in the garage at the MBTA Woodland Station for $7 a day. I believe that you can leave it there for at least a week. Pay through the app or they will send you a invoice.
Works great especially if you live near a green line station
That’s a great tip, MaryLee! I am wondering if there are similar reasonable alternatives in Newton Corner. I don’t think the Bacon Street Garage is that cheap.
But that underscores the squeeze people without off-street parking are in- with the municipal lots closed, there needs to be a reasonable accommodation- perhaps an agreement with the city and garages located in village centers for snow emergencies?
Just want to give kudos to the incredible job Newton (and the people hired to do it) does in clearing streets. I never get worried about having to stock up since I know shortly after the snow ends the roads will be clear. At least the ones I would need. Kudos!
I’ll second that Keith.
We spent nine long years with no regular plowing. Every single time it snowed we had to call and beg for a plow to be sent, often days after the snow stopped.
For the last two or three years the problem has been totally solved and now our little street gets plowed promptly and effectively every time it snows.
In recent years, it’s always music to our ears to hear a plow come down our little street, without having to call and plead.
Our car is no longer trapped in its parking space for days after each snow. Our winter time quality of life has improved immensely.
Kudos to the city’s snow removal crews – thanks
