You’re invited to an Upper Falls neighbor organized skating party on Sunday afternoon starting at 1:30 PM on New Pond.
This has become an informal neighborhood annual event. Neighbors Lee Fisher and Evan Westrate keep an eye on it all winter waiting for the perfect weekend with the right weather and ice conditions. This is it.
A hockey net will be set up in one area while another area can be used for general skating. BYOHC (Bring Your Own Hot Chocolate) and, if so inclined, a hockey stick. Everyone is welcome! They’ll be music playing, people skating, neighbors hanging. Come on by.
New Pond is the little known body of water that flows into the Charles River at Hemlock Gorge. New Pond lies along the south side of Rt. 9 just west of the Stone Barn with parking on Ellis Street in Newton Upper Falls. The pond is between Rt 95 and the Charles River. From Ellis St, walk up the Rt9 exit ramp and its on your left.
A fine winter party indeed!
Thanks to Lee Fisher and Evan Westrate for putting this together again this year.
I had been looking forward to this because I so enjoyed last year’s skating party at New Pond; but I had a previous commitment I couldn’t change. Another great community event from the folks in Upper Falls. One question. I would have thought that the water would flow from the Charles into New Pond and I’m puzzled at how it would flow in the opposite direction..
I’m not sure it flows much either way. My sense is that it’s largely a static, dead end side lobe of the river.
What a great time! Thanks to Lee and Evan. So nice to hang out on a crisp day and play!
Everyone should bring a shovel!
