The Boston Globe ran an article today by Sam Trottenberg about Miss Delta Township at the Allen House.
This one woman show by Joanne Powers just sold out six performances and was the Newton Nomadic Theater’s first foray back into live indoor theater since Covid began.
I noted in an earlier post that I saw Joanne Powers in Miss Delta Township at the Allen House a week ago Sunday. It’s one of the best live oral performances I have ever had the pleasure of attending. I was riveted from start to finish. She told me after the show that she may be coming back to the Boston area to do additional performances. If you missed the Allen House performances, you really should consider checking this out. Congratulations to Jerry and the entire Nomadic Theater crew for making this all possible.
Thanks Bob. Yes Joanne Powers truly is a talented performer and writer.
We’re hoping to possibly bring her back in January for a few more performances somewhere in the area. You can sign up for the Newton Nomadic Theater’s email list here and we’ll let you known if/when any additional shows are scheduled.
My wife Albie and I attended the same performance as @BobBurke during Thanksgiving weekend and we came away excited about such a great performance and such an amazing venue. Under Adrienne’s leadership and commitment, the Newton Cultural Alliance (NCA) has done an amazing job in bringing the Allen House back to life!! Now coupled with Jerry and the Nomadic Theater Group, new entertainment opportunities are presented to all of us in the neighborhood! I highly recommend taking the next opportunity to attend an event at the Allen House and witness the results of vision, commitment and leadership in action.
I was hatching this plan seven years ago but it was stopped in its tracks due to regulatory issues – at the time that Allen House didn’t have legal permitting to allow public access.
Now that it does, it may be time to resurrect The Back Alleys of Newton again.
