One more reason to visit our library. From Mayor Fuller’s latest newsletter:
Our amazing Newtonian, Nancy Schön (yes, the sculptor of the Make Way for Ducklings sculptures in the Boston Garden), donated another wonderful sculpture to Newton of a sunflower with 13 petals representing each of the City’s villages. It now adorns the Newton Free Library on the front of the building just to the left of the book drop.
UPDATE: I just went to look at this today and discovered that each petal has the name of a village on it – something that doesn’t come through in the photo. Lovely addition to our library.
Nancy Schon is a treasure. I heard her talk at Newton Inspires a few years back. Not only is she a wonderful sculptor she’s a wonderful human being
But there won’t be an extra petal from our own online village? Bummer.
But in all seriousness though, I’m looking forward to seeing the sculpture the next time I pop by the library.
