The 2021 Tour de Newton will be held this year on September 19. This year will feature four different 14 mile routes that all converge on City Hall with starts in Newton Centre, Newtonville, Waban, and West Newton.
The Tour de Newton is a fun safe event for the whole famiiy and is a great ride for less experienced riders. Each group of riders has a leader in the front, a ‘sweep” in the back, and travels as a group on well chosen routes Pick you route and sign up today at https://www.bikenewton.org/tour-de-newton/.
If you’re a more experienced rider you could try the 20 mile Contra ride that starts and end at City Hall. That ride is a faster pace for the more experienced folks.
Once the riders arrive at City Hall we’ll have some fun and entertainment waiting for them there. Sign up today
On behalf of Newton Community Pride we are excited to join forces with Bike Newton this year for their September 19th event which we like to call “Tour de Doors”. Bikers will have an opportunity to meet some of our artists from the Newton OutDoors exhibit and hear some piano playing as well on pianos from our Artful Piano Project around various villages. It is going to be lots of fun! Oh and Jerry you forgot to mention there will be music and giant puppets at the City Hall celebration…and who doesn’t love giant puppets! GG
Jerry, thank you for posting. In each route we will be visiting many of the Newton Out Doors art installations, with commentary provided by the artists. Newton Community Pride is coordinating this with us. It should be fun, and we hope to see a lot of people out there!

Even if you can’t ride, it’s quite a wonderful experience just to go to City Hall and see all these cyclists going and coming back.
Can someone who is familiar with the TDN please explain the difference between the “experienced” group and the other groups, for someone who enjoys both competitive and fun rides?
@LDS – The main routes have riders of all different ages and abilities. Since they ride as a group the pace is pretty leisurely and is dictated by the slower riders in the group.
The first year of the Tour de Newton we found that overall riders loved the event but the one frustrated group were the most experience bicyclists. They found the ride too slow. Ever since there’s been one route aimed at the self-selected “more experienced” riders. The pace of the riders on the “contra” route is usually a fair amount quicker than the standard routes.`
Historical Footnote: For the first few years the Tour De Newton was a circular 20+ mile loop with stops in each village. The “contra” route was that same loop, with the riders riding in the opposite direction at a faster pace – hence then name “contra”.
