Hi neighbors! Becky Baumwoll here, born and raised in Newton and currently back to spend family time while the world is upside down. Over the past 10 years, I’ve been living in NYC and leading an arts and education nonprofit called Broken Box Mime Theater (BKBX). Our 15-artist ensemble reimagines French pantomime for contemporary audiences, diving into essentialized theater, nonverbal communication, and live performance that empowers the imagination. Hello!
Our children’s wing BKBXKids!, started a YouTube series this spring that brings our work off of the stage and into your living rooms. You’ll find mini-episodes on becoming essential workers, Zoom games that engage body language, and toddler videos that come in both verbal and nonverbal formats. We are currently working on a new series called BKBXKids! Asks Why, which will explore tough questions with kids, starting with a series all about racism – societal, institutionalized, and interpersonal.
Do take a look! On behalf of the BKBX community, we’d love to share this work with you. To offer feedback, find out how to get involved with our work, or learn more about our work with kids (Zoom classes included!), I’d love to hear from you at [email protected].
Thanks for reading!
Good to hear from Becky again! (We were in theatre together in high school and also Newton’s S.P.A.C.E. summer camp productions.) This seems like a great project.
She and her group are immensely talented, Bill.
Welcome back, Becky! You always were, and probably still are, a talented and creative person. Best of luck.
