We have to win the White House, win the Senate, and pack the court. It’s time to do what our opponents would do without batting an eye.
It makes me so sad that she didn’t get to enjoy her last years because she was clinging on to the bench so desperately. She shouldn’t have had to go through that.
RIP RBG. A lousy way to start the new year. :(
No words.
I like Ed Markey’s idea of expanding SCOTUS should the Democrats take the Senate (I hope!) and Joe Biden wins the general election (else, God save us all).
If you actually trust Mitch McConnell to “let whoever wins in November” decide the pick in January/February instead of rushing Trump’s nominee though, you haven’t been paying attention at all. Sure, he may wait until the lame duck session to do it (possibly recognizing doing it in October could seal the political fates of Susan Collins, Thom Tillis, Martha McSally, Cory Gardner, Joni Ernst, Steve Daines, Lindsey Graham, or even his own Senate seat), but he’s going to do it because he can.
That’s why if Joe Biden is in charge in January and Democrats control at least 50 Senate seats, they need to eliminate the filibuster and add at least two SCOTUS seats to counterbalance Donald Trump’s nominees. One of those seats should go to Merrick Garland (obvious reasons). The other may get offered to Barack or Michelle Obama or someone most of us have never heard of yet.
One more thing: Is Newton having any events later today or this week to honor the late Ruth Bader Ginsburg?
We said Mourner’s Kaddish for her during Rosh Hashanah services yesterday. And she will be greatly missed as a true advocate of justice for all.
You misspelled her name!
Bryan,
Please correct the title of this thread; Her Honor’s surname is “Ginsburg” not “Ginsberg”.
I likewise have no words to share beyond deep sadness for her passing and tremendous gratitude for her work, compassion and commitment to equal justice for all.
