I see “Defund” in the announcement, so I think I have some idea of who’s planning to attend.
I’ll be very interested to see if either Becky Grossman or Jake Auchincloss appears. Both could do something about systemic racism and housing right now, by speaking out against Newton’s exclusionary zoning.
Senator Ed Markey showed up at the Save the USPS rally in West Newton today.
It will be interesting to see which congressional candidates show up at the Black Lives Matter Affordable Housing March/Rally tomorrow.
I’ll be there! I hope many of you decide to join us.
@Sean
While the historical record leaves no doubt that Newton’s zoning was designed to racially segregate our community, do you think that changing the zoning will have any meaningful impact on the diversity of the City?
Or do you see it as simply removing some of the stain of racism from our past?
I saw Jesse Mermell and Jake Auchincloss. While I did not see her, I met someone who was handing out flyers for Ihssane Leckey. Everyone was wearing a mask (yay!) so there may have been others, whom I did not recognize.
There were also several city councilors besides Jake, including Alicia Bowman, and Holly Ryan.
Please forgive me if I forgot anyone.
