I want to offer praise for Mayor Fuller’s Grab & Go free breakfast and lunch program, where folks–no questions asked–can pick up meals weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to noon at Newton North High School, Newton South High School or 150 Jackson Road. This program, quietly and competently going on week after week, early on expanded on the school meals program to be offered to all residents. By all reports, the staff handling the distribution are pleasant and accommodating and, importantly, respectful and nonjudgmental as people drive through. Brava to the Mayor and her team for making this happen! (This is one of several food programs that can help people during these uncertain times.)
By the way, I suspect they will have a surge in demand during the coming weeks, as the supplemental unemployment insurance payments from the federal government are either delayed or eliminated because of Republican opposition (or maybe just confusion) in the U.S. Senate.
A wonderful service to those in need in our community. Another location is West Suburban YMCA for Grab n Go Meals as well.
Thanks, Gloria, for the addendum.
I too have been proud this program was expanded and continues to work! Well done to all! I am also glad to see that somebody on foot or bike should be able to access it as well based on how the food is delivered (eg pickup at specific door of a building, not handed through a car window). Newtonville especially has a higher than the rest of the city percentage of no-car households and it is critical that benefits and opportunities are open to all no matter how they get around.
