| Newton MA News and Politics BlogIt’s been a very long four months since the lockdown began.  For those of us who have remained healthy, the worst part, aside from the economic fallout, has been the social isolation.  Even worse off are those that live alone.

I’d like to propose an informal, modest, and safe next step or two of how we can begin to re-connect with our friends and neighbors – Peek Out Your Door Friday.

Now that warm weather is here there is no reason we can’t all begin to carefully begin re-establishing a social life with our friends, family and neighbors – the key word being “carefully”.

This Friday invite a few friends or neighbors over to your back yard.  With a few simple precautions and some common sense there is no reason we can’t get together to laugh, talk, and hang for an hour or two with a few friends we haven’t seen for a long time.

  • Set up separate spaced seating for the different household groups
  • If you have beverages or snacks, put them in their own area and have people help themselves.
  • Ask everyone to wear a mask whenever they’re not sitting

I’m sure that all of us have particular friends we’re dying to catch up with.  You might want also to consider if you have anybody nearby, an elderly neighbor maybe, who’s been particularly hard hit with the isolation – invite them over too.

Put it on the calendar, make it a regular weekly thing, let’s all begin peeking out our doors again and reconnecting.

If that all sounds great to you but you’d really like to up the ante – have I got an idea for you.

 | Newton MA News and Politics BlogBetter Life Food is a Newton catering company run by Chris Osborn, an old friend of mine.  This past weekend, Chris and Seana Gaherin prepared 300 absolutely wonderful prepared dinners for the Feast of the Falls -Takeout Edition.  Everyone has been raving ever since about the food.   Chris Osborn and Better Life Food have been incredible contributors to Newton’s civic life over many years, but this year his business had been hit incredibly hard by the Covid tsunami.

He’s just launched a new kind of event that would fit right into this Peek Out Your Door Friday plan.  If you and your friends would like to splurge, throw yourself a Petite Party with up to 16 of your friends in your back yard.  Better Life Food will deliver a many course, small | Newton MA News and Politics Blogdish feast, all plated for your individual guests – check out this menu.

Better yet, go one better and have them do the whole thing – deliver 8 high top tables to your backyard and staff to serve your guests through the evening.   Chris and his highly trained crew have been doing food service since the beginning of  Covid19 so they know how to keep you, your food and your guests safe,

My apologies for this barefaced, shameless commercial plug but I definitely want Better Life Food to get through this rough patch.  The one thing I can guarantee is that you will never be disappointed with anything Chris and his crew puts together for you.
