This afternoon I attended “Data Science Zoominar: Massachusetts Data from the COVID-19 Response” which was a conversation with Gillian Haney, Director of Infectious Disease Surveillance and Informatics, Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Catherine (Katie) Brown, State Public Health Veterinarian, Massachusetts Department of Public Health. I hope the recording will eventually be posted because there was a lot of interesting information on how infectious disease surveillance for COVID-19 and other diseases works in our state.

One encouraging piece of information was that they have not seen an increase in COVID-19 cases after the #BLM and other protests, which you can see if you look at the data trends on the state website. This provides evidence that the work organizers did to encourage wearing masks and social distancing was effective at allowing people to protest without endangering themselves or our communities.
