For the last eight years The Tour de Newton has gathered together 100’s of bike riders on Fathers Day for a fun-filled large scale bicycle event. For the first six years it was a 13 village, 20+ mile tour of the city. Last year the event was re-designed into the Magical Mystery Tour de Newton – surprise filled routes with all riders converging on City Hall together.
This year, once again we’ve re-designed the Tour de Newton to make it work for these Covid infested times. Bike Newton has put together seven different great low-stress bicycle routes ranging from the 3 mile “Petite Tour” for beginners to the 21 mile “Ride the Rim”. Check out all the routes here. . This year we’re asking riders to “ride for food, ride for fun”. Sign up here to ride one of these routes sometime between June 21 – July 5, and sign up your family, friends, or neighbors to sponsor your ride – with all proceeds to go to the three Newton Food pantries – who need all our help due to the unprecedented demand in these difficult times.
Ride with your family. Ride by yourself. Ride for fun. Ride for food. … but this year ride the Tour de Newton in service to your neighbors in need.
If you don’t want to or unable to ride, you can still help by sponsoring a rider. Click here to sponsor a rider. Just let them know how much you would like to sponsor a rider for and they’ll pair you with a rider who’s looking for sponsors. The demand at the Newton Food Banks are off the charts at the moment so please consider making a donation, helping the Food Banks, and encouraging young riders who are trying to do their part to help our community.
Go for a ride.
Looks like there’ll be some good bicycling weather this weekend. Why not sign up to ride one of the Tour De Newton 7 routes (3 – 21 miles) and raise money for the Newton food pantries.
If that’s not your thing, how about pledging a donation in support of an enthusiastic rider looking for a sponsor. Just click here with your pledge.
We’ve just extended the event for another week, to July 12 and are hoping to raise an additional, much needed, $1000 for the food banks – ride or pledge if you can.
