There will be demonstration TODAY at 4:30 p.m. in West Newton on Washington Street across from Police Headquarters.
Line Up for Black Lives in Newton to support and honor Black Lives. Please read the guidelines below, posted by the organizers:
– Please wear a mask or face covering.
– Please maintain a distance of at least 6-8 feet from people not in your household.
– Because we are expecting a big crowd, please spread out on the sidewalks along the entire length of the street between 1321 Washington St (the Police Station) and Newtonville (the intersection of Washington and Walnut Street). The more we spread out, the more of a visible impact Line Up Newton will make as cars drive down Washington Street.
– There are no planned speakers, the silent protest along Washington Street is the event.
– This is designed to be a silent protest. We do expect some media may cover the event. If you are white, please direct reporters to Black people in attendance. It is important to amplify Black voices right now.
– At 5pm, if you are able, please join us in honoring George Floyd by taking a knee.
– We don’t expect any trouble at this peaceful, family-friendly event, but just in case, if anything should arise, please do not engage. Simply remove yourself and leave the event.

Nice photos and videos, Jack.
This is how we are perceived? https://youtu.be/0IU6DIfgKII
Clearly, there is much REAL work to be done.
Charlie Shapiro platforms a guy driving past Thursday’s standout calling protesters “hilarious” and saying “these people would never give a black man a dime of their money”.
I’m grateful for the outpouring from my Newton neighbors, including young people, who have stepped up to support Black Lives with their words, actions, and financial support.
My incredible students, including several from Newton, just raised over $100K in support of racial justice and the end to profiling and murdering black people: http://www.bu.edu/articles/2020/bu-umoja-student-government-raise-100k-social-justice-groups/ They’re still taking donations!
I’m proud of Newton standing up for racial justice. That’s who we are.
