The DPU today issued letters to National Grid and Eversource under their emergency powers granted by 220 CMR 25.03(1) and the Governor’s declaration of a state of emergency. There will be a moratorium on shutting off gas and electric services for all residential ratepayers until the state of emergency is lifted.

This action will be extraordinarily helpful to many economically impacted people. The Governor should take more substantial action by postponing the April 15th state income tax deadline by a month. The feds should do the same thing. But after watching President Trump’s last two public addresses on Coranavirus, it’s pretty clear that this crisis is going to have to be managed by Governor’s at the state level.
