Back around 2008, lovers began attaching ‘love locks’ — marked with their initials — to the wire railings on the Pont des Arts footbridge over the Seine in Paris. By 2014, there were so many locks attached to the bridge that one panel of the railing broke away, and in 2015 the government removed all 45 tons(!) of love locks and replaced the wire railings with plexiglass. What does this have to do with Newton? Nothing, except the first love lock has now appeared on Echo Bridge in Upper Falls — to signal an undying love, at least until the MWRA bolt cutters arrive.
Newton’s first ‘love lock’?

What a nice story. Belated Valentine’s. Interesting to see how many appear next year, especially now. Such a special village :)
The little footbridge over the creek near Albemarle field has typically had dozens of such locks. Not sure they were put there as “love locks” or as a fun place for (those darn) kids to have a little fun by decorating the bridge.
Thanks for sharing Bruce (and Doug).
And as a funny aside, padlock ads have started showing up on this page for me. Anyone else?
