Moe Khalaj, proprietor of the Walnut Market (more here from the TAB) sent this email today…
Walnut Market Friends and Customers,
I put “Friends” before “Customers” because that’s how I have come to think of many of you.
For the 16 years I have run Walnut Market I have made relationships I will take with me forever.
I have memories I will never forget (including the neighborhood coming together to support me after the Muslim Ban and the discrimination I experienced). How can I ever thank you all for all of that? I cannot.
But, as all good things come to an end, this chapter of my life does too. I have sold Walnut Market in order to move closer to my son and family.
Please be patient with the new young owner, Matt Santarpio . The liquor license did not transfer as smoothly as we hoped. It’s gonna be a couple months of transition and hiccups. But he’s so excited to be in the neighborhood. Please keep coming to make it work. (And, hey, it’s not another nail salon or bank!).
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the years of support and patronage.
Moe Khalaj
Thank YOU, Moe, for everything you have given to our community. Newton Highlands is better because of you and your amazing shop. Best of luck to you and your family.
I cannot overstate how much Moe means to Newton Highlands. I will certainly miss his enthusiasm, energy and warm smile.
I’ll miss Moe. He is a gentleman and a terrific salesman. Somehow he always succeeded to sell me twice as much as I walked in for yet I always walked out with a smile. That’s a great salesman.
He’s been very supportive of the locally formed “Luke’s Lights” (inspired and in memory of the Highland’s Luke Voss-Kernan) and many other Activities.
Best of luck Moe!
Moe, you were always so kind to me and my three young children. You have been a treasure for the neighborhood, and you will be missed. Best of luck on your next adventure!
I agree with all the above comments, and I particularly salute Moe’s logistical genius in bringing Montreal bagels to Newton.
Even if Fairmount > St. Viateur ;)
Moe is an absolute angel. He was so kind to me when I visited his store for some wonderful Persian treats. He is the definition of “Love your neighbor”. Thank you for everything. Many beautiful blessings to you and your family.
