I have tried House of Tandoor – after stating that one person was a vegetarian, we landed up with meat appetizers, and were very unhappy. Had that been an allergy we would have been on the way to the hospital. Doesn’t measure up to to the old India Paradise.
Nothing Bundt Cakes – delicious but pricey.
Odd Fellows – good for a change, but still like JP Licks.
While walking in Newton Centre earlier this week I noticed sign a public hearing for a special permit request for a new restaurant in NC. It listed multiple addresses and the requests for more than 5o seats and few parking than required. It isn’t listed on the Land Use Committee’s page at this point.
Being able to get a bon me in Newton (Pho Viet) has greatly enhanced my life. And Pressed’s arrival on Needham Street has upped my coffee game (while it will take two years to work my way though their very long menu).
Patzcuaro in Nonantum is fantastic! I’ve been there twice and loved each meal. The menu isn’t large, but the food is really fresh, the service is very good and the drinks and music are terrific.
We’re going to have to teach us old dogs some new tricks.
I haven’t been to any of this year’s new restaurants and the only one of the closed restaurants I’ve ever set foot in is Terry OReilly’s.
We do get out fairly frequently but never seem to venture outside of the handful of our regular favorites.
Time for a New Years resolution
Oh and the Landing is a gem. It’s like a step back in time and the anchovies are spectacular.
Per city website, the multi-address Newton Centre special permit is for a restaurant at Piccadilly Square: fifty-plus seats, which seems reasonable enough, but with a parking waiver request for over 470 spaces, which sounds nutty. Maybe it’s a mistake?
That is a great location for a restaurant if it the building that the bagel shop is in. I’ve often felt that was a great spot for outdoor seating
I’ll forever miss Coney Island in West Newton. The people who ran it gave me, my dad, and my aunt memories we will never forget.
@Jerry Reilly
I think I can top you regarding teaching old dogs new tricks. Other than the occasional foray at the McDonald’s restaurant on Circumferential Hwy (usually after coming home from a long trip). We haven’t been to a restaurant in Newton since the Pillar House on route 128, and South Pacific Chinese Restaurant on Beacon Street closed their doors.
But we do agree in one area, It’s time for a New Years resolution
