I am thankful that Newton is so blessed with wealth, beautiful surroundings and favorable geographic location, that not even the mis-guided liberal/progressive policies of its elected officials and civic leaders will be able destroy those blessings for many years to come, if ever.

@jim oh jim … No one quite knows the reason. It could be his head wasn’t screwed on just right. It could be, perhaps, that his shoes were too tight. May have been that his heart was two sizes too small.

That’s a real leap — but feel free to elaborate with substance (rather than mere pejorative).

Besides family, health and friends, I’m thankful for Village14, for Gail and the Boston Globe, and for any and all of us who are passionate about our communities. We might not agree, we might find each other annoying, but in the end, we are family.
Cheers and to all a good night.

Jim, I believe he was comparing you to the Grinch because you posted a political statement in a what we are thankful post….
For the record, I’m thankful for you too Jimbo. Both your post and the Grinch reference made me smile.
Cheers all. Be nice. Be best? Be kind.

Mike C.,
OK, liberals frequently have good intentions.
Fig,
My comment was honest thankfulness about Newton.

I’m thankful that we live in a town with so many people willing and ready to step up, devote time, volunteer, help out, in a myriad of different ways on a myriad of different projects, issues and causes.
When we all get caught up in a contentious issue or election it’s always good to remember that the civically active people that we’re bumping heads with on that issue, are the folks we’re working with at the PTO event, park cleanup, or food drive the next time we see them.
Happy Thanksgiving to you all. May you have a few wonderful days filled with family, friends, food, and fun.
You’d be right if you thought I seemed a bit too well informed in my comments on the Boston Sports Club story back on the 13th…
Happy Thanksgiving,
Jack

I’m thankful for our NPS teachers who worked way too long without a contract. I’m also thankful for the aides who have a thankless job and don’t make a living wage.

I’m grateful for all those civic-minded individuals and groups, both past and present, who have and continue to keep The Garden City’s best interests at heart through their plodding, patient, painstaking service. They are the true heartbeat of this City.

I am grateful to everyone who voted, no matter who they supported. We had a great turnout this year even though it was an off year.
Engaged citizens and competitive elections make government work better, regardless of the outcome.

Bryan,
Outcome does matter. I’m certain there are those in, or who would contend for, City and School offices and administration who feel that Thanksgiving is too Eurocentric and the holiday should become a “National Day of Mourning”.
To say nothing of Thanksgiving’s carbon footprint (travel and contents of family meal).
Seems a bit hypocritical for many V14 posters and commenters to give thanks for that!

I’m thankful that my immediate family, children and grandchildren, and some of my extended family, live close enough
together that we can still be with each other on this holiday – regardless of its name. Even though my oldest grandkid just tuned 18 and is off to college next year, I’m hoping our all being together continues way into the future.
