The Friends of Hemlock Gorge invite everyone to the dedication of a granite memorial bench honoring the late Brian Yates — a founding member of the FHG, its third president, a Newton City Councilor for three decades, and an untiring environmentalist. The dedication will be held August 6 (rain date August 7) at 5:30PM near the Stone Building at 1330 Boylston Street, at the corner of Ellis Street and the connector to Route 9 (map). The memorial bench overlooks the Charles between the Stone Building and the Ken Newcomb memorial.

Following the ceremony, the FHG will hold its annual summer picnic. A charcoal grill and music will be provided. Bring your own food and drink, chairs or blankets, and perhaps insect repellent.┬áStreet parking is available in the neighborhood, but parking close to the site is very limited. There’s a small parking lot near the Stone Building and another in Needham at the intersection of Central Ave. (extension of Newton’s Elliot Street) and Hamilton Place.
