Ascend Massachusetts is holding a community meeting Thursday on its proposed recreational marijuana shop at the site of the former Beacon Hill Athletic Club at the corner of Cross and Washington Streets.
The meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. 7 p.m., Thursday, July 18 at the First Unitarian Church on Washington Street, Newton Patch reports
I got a notice that the meeting starts at 7pm, not 7:30pm.
It does start at 7 not 7:30.
Fixed. Thanks.
It will be interesting to see how Ascend Wellness responds to the allegations in the recent Boston Globe article that they trying to evade the state law that limits ownership or control of cannabis dispensaries to three stores by using their political connections and investing in multiple shell companies that will have three stores each.

As an American, I welcome the freedom legalized cannabis represents. As a Newton resident, I welcome the jobs and revenue cannabis retailers are bringing to this city.
The manner in which Newton’s elected “leaders” handled legalization–voting without dissent to reverse the democratic outcome of an election, remains one of the most disgraceful moments I can remember in my 56 years as a Newton resident. I will never vote for or support any elected official who manipulated the law in order to undermine democracy.
Seems like a good location to me. Keep those stores in that area. That ward voted for skunkweed so they should take the stores.
Voters across Newton voted in support of allowing recreational marijuana retail stores citywide.
“Skunkweed” was not on the ballot.
Not every ward voted in favor.
The city voted against the ban and the 2-4 limit.
Respect the vote. Move on.
Thanks Laurie for sharing the Boston Globe Spotlight report re Ascend Wellness. Very concerning and after last night’s meeting I’m more concerned than ever about this business and their management style.
I missed the beginning, which sounded like it was mostly introductions, but here’s audio of the rest of the meeting:
