Remember the annual and semi-annual swap days at Rumford? Its back but every week.
I was dropping off recyclables last week and popped over to the shed to see what people were sharing. I saw several “shoppers” and a couple of folks dropping off items. A nice selection of items have been accumulated but it was not the mass of stuff that I was used to seeing on swap days. Its nice to see a program that is working to reduce what could end up in the waste stream, especially now that less is eligible for recycling each week.
Continuing on last year’s successful launch of the Re-Use-It Newton swap shed, you can share your no longer wanted or needed items with Newton residents weekly at the recycling center. This project sponsored by the Newton Recycling Committee and is staffed by volunteers (volunteers always welcome), is open on Fridays and Saturdays during the spring, summer and fall month.
The shed has been open for a couple of weeks, and I understand volunteers get first pick of the goods, so sign up to find a new treasure.
Information on the hours and status is available on the City website
This is a fantastic initiative! There are two other good free resources for people who want to recycle their good-condition household goods to others:
1. The Pinpoint Donation Facebook group where local charities post things they need and donors also can post items they want to give away to get ideas on where to take them:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/Pinpoint.Donation/
2. “Buy Nothing” groups on Facebook where you can post things you want to give away to other people in your neighborhood. There are multiple groups on Facebook to join depending on what part of Newton you live in.
