After almost ten years away from Newton City Hall, former Alderman and Finance Chair Paul Coletti has taken out nomination papers to run for councilor at-large from Ward 5. Prior to losing his run for mayor in the 2009 preliminary election, Coletti had served for 32 years on what was then called the Board of Aldermen. For 27 of those years he was the chair of the Finance Committee.
Paul lives in Newton Upper Falls. I wonder if the proposed Northland project has anything to do with his decision making…
Paul will be a strong candidate and a great addition to the Council. His strong fiscal background, keen knowledge of the City budget and practical common sense manner will serve the City well.
I am interested in finding out specifics about Mr. Coletti’s position on various issues. I know it is early days since he pulled papers so he may not have issued position statements yet — but if/when there is a website, etc., kindly direct readers to the location. Thanks
Ward 5 needs a strong person like Paul to represent his Ward
in the best interests of the residents. Brian Yates would be so happy.
This is a good time for Coletti to be back in the mix, especially with Brian Yates gone. I hope he ends up running. I would vote for him.
As I recall, Paul Coletti favored the closing of the Emerson school (Upper Falls’ only elementary school) because he thought it was good for Upper Falls kids to associate more with kids from the Highlands and Waban. This was most emphatically not Brian Yates position (nor the position of the vast majority of Upper Falls residents).
Don’t be so quick to back “strong” people, but find out more about them.
It was a long time ago, but some of us still remember.
