I loved it and the visuals made me want to get in the car and drive over to Antoine’s.
Favorite moment though was when the interviewer asked the guy from the Nonantum Boxing Club why is boxing making a resurgence these days and he said “people like hitting things”.
Nice piece.
Loved it too and ditto on the boxing comment. What a hoot!
Nonantum is one of my favorite villages – everything about it.
Thank you Chronicle! So proud of my village of Nonantum. It truly is a neighborhood full of traditions. The piece highlighted some of the wonderful events and popular establishments here but, there is so much more! In addition to the St Carmen Italian feast and the Christmas tree lighting there is the annual Nonantum Village Day held every June and other eateries like Moldova, Olivia’s and Sangria, West street Tavern, Tommy Doyles and Prelude Bakery. We can boost about having the oldest synagogue in Newton and the best giftware shop Greentails Table. I could go on. So please come explore this special section of Newton.
Thank you Chronicle for featuring Nonantum. I am proud to have lived in Nonantum all my life and out of 13 villages Nonantum is unique. When NNA was working with Elaine Gentile in decorating the electrical boxes we needed to have a theme. Maria Greenberg came up with “Nonantum a Village of Tradition!” If you look at our electrical boxes that is our theme we are a village of tradition.
Nonantum is a walkable, densely-populated village with quick access to downtown Boston and some of the most affordable housing in the city. I would love if the city would do some of the same kind of placemaking work on the village center in Watertown and Adams Street as they are with this developer over on Washington.
Nonantum is also home to a growing number of small startups and growing innovation economy businesses in the Charles River Mill District. And just this month a new office and laboratory incubator for emerging biotechnology and life sciences opened there.
And we get more trick or treaters than anywhere in the city, I’ll wager!
