After a long wait, Mediterranean Grille opened today, Sat. 10 February. It looked like a nice opening lunch crowd today and I am looking forward to trying out the food.
The new restaurant occupies the former location of Games and Gizmos at 6 Lincoln St in Newton Highlands. Grape Leaf joins Buttonwood as the two newest Highlands neighbors.
We stopped by Saturday night. Nice size crowd. Amazing menu, very reasonably priced for this area. And EXCELLENT grape leaves!
I really would like to see a continued shift of more restaurants in village centers as in my opinion they really add to the sense of community than any other type of “retail” use
@Claire: The best way we can ensure a robust dining scene in our villages is by making it a priory to be their customers. And the best way to ensure their long term success is to support efforts that will bring more density to our village centers.
@Greg: the higher the density in village centers, the more parking and traffic become more difficult. This is the elephant in the living room that no one is talking about. Isn’t it bad enough? Do you really want more?
@Greg “@Claire: The best way we can ensure a robust dining scene in our villages is by making it a priory to be their customers.
And I do!
@Pat Irwin I think there is plenty of population density in many of our village centers to ensure sufficient patronage without requiring additional parking. I live in Newton Centre so I walk to NC restaurants but could easily take the D train to Newton Highlands or Waban. But also it should be noted that parking in the villages is available AND free during the dinner hours
@ Claire: I totally agree there is plenty of population density in our village centres. And it’s great that there’s sufficient parking. What I’m saying is the higher the population density (@ Greg) the more parking and traffic will be a mess. Not sure about anyone else, but it sure seems like there’s more than enough right now.

Then that’s a great reason to improve Newton’s public transit!
