The negative impacts of climate change are many and we may already be at a point of no return. The federal government, for the time being, is openly hostile to considering solutions to this global problem. So communities like ours are left to determine how we will respond to this crisis.
Candidates for office in Newton seem to uniformly agree that climate change needs to be addressed, but we haven’t had a conversation on Village 14 about how we do that.
So candidates: What are your plans to reach net 0 carbon? What’s the roadmap, what’s the timeline, how do we get there, and what will you work on to help us achieve our goals?
NOTE: For school committee candidates, a conversation about how the schools could go carbon neutral would be great too.
Hopefully there is no plan for zero carbon as a ZC Newton would have zero tangible impact on global climate change. We should be electing folks who are concerned with solving pertinent problems local to our city.
A couple of days ago Mr. Roche tried tying the new charter to environmental issues. Now we have a member of the Charter Commission pushing similar ideas. What’s the message here? Maybe it’s time for you folks to quit before you kill whatever support you are generating for the new order. If we wanted a enviro-centric city government, all we have to do is write in Norton for Mayor.
Oddly enough, on the tweet-fest I referred to on the other thread, my point was that Emily, by opposing density, is not as enviro-centric as she could be.
“If we wanted a enviro-centric city government, all we have to do is write in Norton for Mayor.”
Elmo I may have to quote you on my next mailer!
PS Bryan you also said one cannot be pro-tree and pro-open space and be an environmentalist, so I think Elmo is a more reliable source on this one.
@Emily: As someone who considers herself an environmentalist, it’s disappointing to see you trivialize the question of how we get to net 0, instead hurling out attacks and distortions.
I think the world could use a bit more Lorax right now. “I speak for the trees. I speak for the trees for the trees have no tongues.” #Unless
