According to Scott Lennon’s campaign, just announced, the final result will be approximately 36% for Ruthanne, 33% for Scott, and 25% for Amy.
Congratulations to all who were willing to stick their neck out there and throw their hat in the ring. Amy raised some important issues that hopefully the other candidates will run with, like how we get to 100% renewable energy in this city.
Scott Lennon, Ruthanne Fuller, goodnight and good luck. Amy, thank you for your long record of service to the city.
This is from an email Fuller just sent to supporters..
I want to thank you, my friends, and my family for your commitment over these past eleven months.
The polls officially closed one hour ago, and with all results in, we’ve won the most votes for Mayor of Newton!
We live in a remarkable city with passionate and engaged residents who give so much back to Newton. With Washington D.C. and national politics being so divisive, I’m excited that we’ve run a campaign focused entirely on the issues that impact Newton residents. I’m looking forward to continuing a spirited discussion of these issues between now and November 7th – the final election.
I want to acknowledge the other five candidates who participated in this race for running thoughtful and dedicated campaigns. I especially want to mention Amy Sangiolo who talked passionately about important issues facing our City. Amy has done great things for the City of Newton as a City Councilor and activist, and I know she will continue to be a bold voice for our residents.
Newton stands at a crossroads and needs a strong, independent leader to ensure we remain a vibrant, inclusive community. As Mayor, I’ll deliver improvements that impact us all – making our schools the best in Massachusetts, enhancing our village centers and preserving our residential neighborhoods, investing our tax dollars wisely, and providing effective, responsive city services. My experience in the private, public, and non-profit sectors gives me the ability to think big within our means and deliver on a vision for all of Newton.
The campaign has just begun. I couldn’t have come this far without you, and I can only win the general election with you. Starting tomorrow, I absolutely need your help – to knock on doors and get on the phone as I listen to our fellow residents and discuss our shared vision for Newton’s future.
Thank you again for all that you do. With your continued support and hard work, we can pull together to go all the way to the Mayor’s office on November 7th!
I met 6/7 mayoral candidates while campaigning outside of events, and they were all genuine, humble and wanted to talk about the schools. They all deserve our respect.
On another note, I also have a live stream with an election breakdown going on my FB page: https://www.facebook.com/cyrusfornewton/
Thanks to Amy Sangiolo for her years of service to the city. Her presence will be missed in city government. Amy got a late start, but she should be very proud of the great campaign she ran for Mayor. I hope she takes a well deserved break, and runs for office again in the not too distant future.
Congratulations to Ruthanne and Scott.
Newton should consider itself lucky to have such fine, dedicated and capable candidates for Mayor. And that includes Amy and the three candidates who weren’t serving on the city council…Al, Richard and Geoff.
Newton is on a roll.
Building on Mike’s point, I’d like to point out that Amy ran an important, and in many ways, distinguished campaign. That she only lost to Scott by 8% despite him outspending her roughly $124,000 to $33,000, in my opinion, speaks to the strength of the message that she ran on. Thank you for your service to Newton, Amy.
